A friend said that she went to Social Security and they told her to take the benefit as early as possible. Is this good advice?

Answer: Firstly, Social Security offices are not authorized to provide advice; their role is strictly paperwork processing. Completing paperwork during your visit might be convenient for them to avoid future tasks. However, determining whether it’s optimal for you to start early requires a thorough analysis of your individual circumstances. Given the uniqueness of each situation, it’s challenging, if not impossible, to establish universal filing rules. Generally, the older, higher-income spouse should consider delaying filing until age 70, though exceptions exist, such as if both spouses have a short life expectancy.
